VIrtual Stamping Night - The Crush

Last weekend's VSN Mini was so much fun! I didn't get a chance to play nearly as many challenges I wanted to, but I had a blast hanging with my peeps on the VSN threads and trying my hand a some new techniques. This one was one of my favs. The challenge was hosted by my Sassy friend Sherry, who asked us to use the Burned Batik technique on our card. This was new for me, but was much easier than it looked and I loved the effect. By the way, this card has ELEVEN LAYERS ~ a lot even for me!

My First Sewing Card ~ FFC17

Well, I'm a day late (and a dollar short, too, if you must know ;-)), but here is my Friday Fun Challenge Card. This week's Sassy hostess was Kim, and she challenged us to make a card using BRIGHT colors. Well, I finally got up the nerve to thread up my new Janome Sew Mini and give it a whirl. Let me tell you, it's harder than it looks! For my bright colors, I used Papertrey Ink's Berry Sorbet along with SU's Yo-Yo Yellow (may have been my original piece!) and Tempting Turquoise. The stamp is from Michael's $1 bin, made by Studio G.

Ode to Julie, Her Royal Rubberness

Like many of you, I am a huge fan of JulieHRR's work. A while back I stumbled upon the most wonderful gift idea, designed by Julie ~ a notepad cover with unbelievable creative possibility! Let me tell you, I've been going crazy making these babies! Julie has generously given permission for me to post a link to her Noteables design instructions/pattern for this fantastic project. I encourage you to check it out and give it a try! They are surprisingly quick and easy to make ~ perfect for last minute gift-giving!

Here are some that I've made for the kids' teachers, the wonderful support staff at work, the team mom of Sam's baseball team ... the beauty of the Noteables is that it can make a great gift for men, women, children, teens... ANYONE!

It's a busy Friday Fun Day and I am posting my FFC15 card late because I went Christmas shopping this morning. This week's challenge, to make a New Year's card, was hosted by my Sassy friend Sherry. I was shocked to discover that I only have ONE New Year's stamp, but then I found the perfect paper to go with it, so it worked out great! Neither the DP nor the stamp have any markings indicating their manufacturer, but I the pink paper and matching ribbon is Papertrey Ink's Berry Sorbet. Virtual Stamping Weekend Recap

One of my all-time favorite Splitcoast events is Virtual Stamping Night (Weekend), and this time around was FANtastic!!! The theme was Come to the Cabaret, and there were SO many fun and interesting challenges. And I'm not just sayin' that because I had the privilege of being a challenge hostess again! (lol).

My challenge, entitled Striptease, was to include something on your card that can be removed. The cards created for this challenge were incredibly clever, let me tell ya! Among the entries was a get well card with a Band Aid on it, a Bon Voyage card that included a luggage tag, and an actual Tic Tac Toe game board with little Velcro'd game pieces. Other removable items included, fridge magnets, candy canes, Christmas ornaments, biggie clips, bookmarks, packets of soup mix, coffee....just amazing! Here are some of my VSN creations. Because this is the final week of my son's Little League Fall Baseball Season, I decided to create a thank you for our team mom, Cyndi. She has helped to make the season loads of fun, and has worked really hard to organize game schedules, practices, uniforms, snacks, etc. In order to show my appreciation, I decided to make her a special thank you Noteables notepad, signed by all the parents and players inside. I hope she will like it and know how thankful we are for HER!

I also want to gratefully acknowledge the designer of the Noteables notepad, JulieHRR! Mini VSN This Weekend

This was Mini VSN Weekend, and it was a blast! A new challenge was posted each hour, beginning on Saturday at 5:00 pm. Participants had 45 minutes to make their creations. Because I am part of the VSN hostess team, I had an opportunity to play early. Here are a few of my Mini VSN creations.

Here is my card for the challenge called "All That Jazz". The challenge was to make a card inspired by the 1920's. This was a tough one for me! My fringe is handmade. Ouch! Hehe. I used SC183 for my layout.

I must admit, I only own one wheel ~ it's the one that came with my Stampin' Up starter kit. I've never used it, so this was a real challenge for me! The polka dots on the wheel inspired me to break out my new dice stamp from RiverCity Rubberworks (also never used).

This is the only Halloween card I have made this year, because I don't really know what I'm supposed to do with Halloween cards! This was the Limited Supplies challenge. The challenge was to make a card without using either pastel colors or patterned paper. I used SC196 for the layout.

Hi all! It's Friday again, and that means it's time for our weekly Friday Fun Challenge! This week's hostess is Jimmi, and her challenge involves using BLING on your card. For details, visit Jimmi's blog, here.

Here is my Blingy card. It's hard to tell in the pic, but the bloom is completely traced over with Platinum Stickles and it shines like crazy! The dandelion stamp is from Hero Arts, and the sentiment is from SU's Short & Sweet set. This is my first card using the new In-Colors, Kiwi Kiss and Pacific Point. I added in SU's Close to Cocoa and PTI's Vintage Cream, which I stippled with Close to Cocoa ink. I also used my Nestabilities scallop square die cuts, SU's word window punch, and Kiwi brads. My layout was cased shamelessly from Beate's gorgeous card, here.

I made this card for the VSN pre-challenge called "Musical Inspiration". The challenge was to choose a song and make a card using that song as your inspiration. The inspiration for this card is T-Pain's song entitled "Buy You a Drank". Yeah, it's one of my ringtones! LOL. Anyway, it looks like Stella has had far too many people buying her drinks tonight! I used Julee Tiliman's Mojo Monday #42 sketch for my layout, but turned the square on an angle 'cause Stella's tipsy. Thanks for the fun challenges, ladies!

Hi Y'all! Welcome to the FIRST EVAH FRIDAY FUN CHALLENGE!!!!

This is a new challenge that I will be presenting every Friday with my Sassy friends Kim, Jimmi, and Sherry. Our plan is to take turns hosting a fun challenge ~ color, sketch, limited supplies, project, technique ~ anything that we think you will enjoy trying.

This week our hostess with the mostest is Kim, and she has decided to present a color challenge using Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip, and Kraft. Check out all the deets on Kim's blog, Papertastic Creations.

Here is my card. I used my new Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder to create the background on Kraft paper, adding elements in PTI White and Chocolate Chip. The layout for this card is courtesy of Julee Tilman (it's her Verve Visual Sketch #1). I just love her layouts! I added the Pretty in Pink around the owl's eyes, and also with the mini brads. I think it gives a nice little POP to the card! The stamp is from Inkadinkado. You likey?

My next-door neighbors are the nicest people in the world. They are retired, and have practically adopted all of the children on our cul-de-sac as their very own grandchildren. I made this book for Linda ~ the first page says "Linda's Kids", and each subsequent page has a photo of one of their "adopted grandchildren". The last two pages are group photos. When the kids brought it to her she cried. Happy tears, I hope.

My Blue Baby

I've been fascinated by the Bind-It-All for a very long time, and finally decided to get one of my own.

This machine is really awesome. It allows you to make spiral bound products like Board Books, Albums, Recipes Books, Address Books, Journals...well, you get the idea. There is definitely a learning curve for me with this machine, but I'll share a few of the first items I've made.

I made this card for my good friend Kim (Nutsymuhl), who has been laid up while recovering from foot surgery. She's got three children and will need to stay off her foot for about eight weeks!! I can't even imagine. Feel better soon, Kim!

I used my S.E.I. Black Orchard paper for this card. I think it's really striking with the black. The lavender is colored with pastel Copics, but it's hard to see in the picture.

Weekend Inspiration

Well, it's far too soon to say that my mojo has returned, but I was inspired to few stamped items this weekend.

My good friend Kim "Nutsymuhl" was selected to be the Featured Stamper on Splitcoast this weekend! This is a huge honor, and she is totally deserving of it. You can check out her amazing gallery, here. The Featured Stamper Challenge is to CASE a card made by the FS. Here is the card I chose to CASE.

My card uses my favorite DP, which I have been saving for just the right moment, and also a piece of Kraft ribbon that Kim sent me last week. I thought it was only fitting to use it on her FS card. I had to dye my mini brads with Brilliance Cosmic Copper ink to match the copper CS.

My good friend Kim (Nutsymuhl) lives near a Dick Blick store, so I commissioned her to buy me some new Copic Sketch Markers (on sale! :-)). I received them this week, and let me tell ya...I'm in LOVE!!! Feast your eyes on these babies!

Do You Live on Creative Way?

My company decided to name each of the offices in the outpatient clinic where I work. They assigned each office a "street name", and decided mine should be called Creative Way. When I saw the plain beige plaque with the black block print letters, I knew it simply would not do!! I took the plaque home, and this is what I came up with. The edging is made with Soft Sky punches from an ordinary hole punch.

I'm Blaming it on the Mojo!

It's finally happened. I've completely lost my mojo! I haven't stamped a darned thing this week, despite the fact that I've had plenty of time to do so. I've also completely neglecting my blog, so in an effort to get back on track I am posting some of the cards I've made over the last three weeks. Virtual Stamping Weekend

VSN was so much fun! This month's theme was Project Runway. Challenges were posted every hour and we had 45-minutes to make our creations. VSN always pushes me far outside of my comfort zone, and this one had me trying some new techniques such as cracked glass and faux stitching. The time-limit creates a wonderful adrenaline rush which I love! For details on any of these cards, please see my Splitcoast Stampers gallery (link on right).

This card was a for a sketch challenge. My fav!

This "Boy Toy" card was for a challenge to
"create a monochromatic blue card". I used one of Frances' (Stamp Owl) sketches for my layout.

"Cheers" is the card I made for a limited supplies challenge. We were allowed to use one stamp, two colors of CS (plus a neutral), two types of embellishments (I used eyelets and a mini brad), and a tool (I used my word window punch).

For this challenge, we were supposed to create a card using layers of flowers. I paper pieced my window and created flowers with a Cuttlebug flower die cut.

This challenge was to use a buckle on your card.

This was the most challinging of all for me, using the "Cracked Glass" technique. This technique requires that you apply several layers of UTEE, freeze the image, cracki it, and smear ink into the cracks to make them more vivid. As you can see, I need to work a little more on this technique!

The challenge here was to use plaid on a card.

This was my first attempt at "Faux Stitching".

This challenge was to make a Genie Bag. I decided to make my bag into a card, instead. (Yeah, I cheated)

For the "Masculine Card" challenge, I decided to use my Flourishes shirt & tie, which is paper pieced. The pocked is pieced as well.

This card was especially fun to make. The challenge was to make a card using only red and one neutral color. I used Cranberry Crisp here, and the flower is watercolored with an Aquapainter. I used an old Mojo Monday sketch for my layout.

I named this card "Wild Thang". The challenge was to use an animal print on your card.

This card was made for a challenge to use a "sketch-type" stamp on your card. Right away I saw an opportunity to use my Papertrey Ink "Pink Patterns" DP. I chose to use the Blooming with Happiness dress because of the Project Runway theme.

I think this is the card I am least happy with. It was an ispiration challenge, and the inspiration was a wild and crazy runway dress that had a black and rainbow pattern on it.

Here's my submission for Project Runway VSN's mini challenge, Tall & Skinny. The challenge was to CASE a card and re-make it into a tall & skinny card. I have been having serious computer "issues" this past week, so I haven't posted in a while. I don't know why it randomly decided to let me on this morning, as I don't think I did anything to fix it, but keep your fingers crossed that it will last a bit longer!

This week's Sassy Challenge was to make a card using the Dahlia Fold featured on SCS a couple of months ago (you can find the tutorial here). I knew right away that I was going to have to use my Ginger Blossom paper. I may never do this again, as it was a lot of work, but I do like the way it turned out!

1. Stamping Style - Style? Do I have a style? A few months ago I would have said clean, crisp lines, nothing cutesy. But lately I have been branching out a bit, and I now like shabby chic, lots of layers, mixing patterns and colors.

A Very Long Night Indeed

On Saturday night, my boys attended a 'Lock-In" at our local Superplay, USA. This is like a glorified sleepover party for kids ages 7-15 (supervised by staff and the local police department). From 11:30 at night until 6:00 in the morning, the kids had free access to bowling, laser tag, mini golf, air hockey, food, drinks, and dancing. They had a blast! Needless to say, however, I was up all night calling them on their cell phones and generally being anxious about the whole affair. In order to stay awake, I stamped! Here's what I made:

I chose my "Consider Yourself Hugged" sentiment, and this crazy chicken seemed like it would be a good image to go with it. I love how Basic Grey makes brads to match it's Two Scoops Collection DP. This is my card for today's Splitcoast Color Challenge, CC152. The colors are Ballet Blue, Real Red, and Apricot Appeal. These are definitely not colors I would normally use together, so this was a real challenge for me. Luckily, I happened to have Copic Sketch Markers in just the right colors. It's really hard to see in the photo, but several of the layers are stamped with the Canvas BG stamp.
